How to play The Midnight Archive

  1. One suspect, artifact and room are sealed into the solution. Every other evidence card is dealt privately to the investigators. Cards you hold cannot be in the solution.
  2. Rooms form a ring. On your turn you may move once, up to two rooms in either direction. You may also stay where you are.
  3. Make one theory per turn: choose a suspect and artifact in your current room. The first player clockwise holding a matching card privately shows you one matching card, selected by the server. Everyone sees who disproved the theory, but only you see the evidence.
  4. Your notebook automatically records your own cards and evidence shown to you. An unanswered theory proves the solution only if none of its cards are in your own hand.
  5. You may make a final accusation on your turn from any room. A correct accusation wins. A wrong accusation eliminates you from taking turns, but your evidence still answers theories.
  6. Pass your turn when finished. If every investigator accuses incorrectly, the case closes unsolved and the solution is revealed. At 120 turns the solution is revealed as an unsolved case.
  7. Computer investigators use only their own cards and privately shown evidence. They do not read the hidden solution or other players’ cards.
